06.02 Ballot Initiative

06.02 Ballot Initiative

Sexual Abuse

A major problem that we face today as a community is abuse; more specifically sexual abuse. Victims of sexual abuse are more commonly known to be children and women but it includes everyone. This ballot initiative establishes terms of release for convicted sexual abusers, complies a list of suspected sex offenders and are additional penalties for convicted sexual abusers. All of this is to protect ourselves as a community from sexual abusers.

Reflection Question

“How is this ballot initiative an example of direct democracy?

This ballot initiative is an example of direct democracy because it allows ordinary citizens to propose and approve laws. Democracy means from the people and direct democracy means there are no representatives involved and I am not a governmental representative hence this initiative ballot is an example of direct democracy.
